Brazilian Modernist Photography, 1946–1964. This major survey explored the creative achievements of the Foto-Cine Clube Bandeirante, a group of amateur photographers in São Paulo who created some of the most spectacular modernist photography of the 20th century. The exhibition challenged the traditional Eurocentric narrative of modernism.

Dorothea Lange: Words & Pictures

The Museum of Modern Art, New York

The first major MoMA retrospective of Lange in 50 years. This exhibition examined the complex relationship between Lange's iconic images and the words that accompanied them—from her own field notes to the captions used by editors. It argued that context is essential to understanding documentary photography.
